Det hele startede i 1996 i en kælder under en frisørsalon i Quincy, Massachusetts. Siden da har Dropkick Murphys skabt hæsblæsende og energisk keltisk punk med sækkepiber, mandoliner, banjoer og harmonikaer. Deres største hit "Shipping Up To Boston" har for længst fået platinstatus, og var også en del af soundtracket til filmen The Departed.
I januar 2017 udgav de deres niende album "11 Short Stories Of Pain & Glory", som de indspillede i et studie i Texas. I den forgangne weekend weekend spillede sekstetten en fantastisk koncert på Tinderbox Festivalen i Odense. De gæstede Valby Hallen i februar 2017, og skabte i 2016 såmænd også irsk kædedans i mosh pitten på COPENHELL.
