Nabiha Bensouda is a born artist and performer and she is now ready with her first single “Deep Sleep” from her coming solo album. “Deep Sleep” is a song with an incredibly strong hook and it’s about “just wanting to sleep”. The middle-8 is actually a lullaby from Mali, which Nabiha’s mother used to sing to her when she was a child. The lyrics in the lullaby are a mix of African and French, and it always put Nabiha to sleep.

Nabiha has Danish and north-west African roots (Gambia, Mali and Morocco) and she was born and raised in Copenhagen as the eldest child in a family of seven. Nabiha grew up listening to disco music and soul, but at the age of five she also fell in love with reggae. Later, her love turned to rock music, R’n’B and electronic music. So Nabiha has been around most genres and has now developed her own unique style, which is strengthened by her sublime and distinctive vocals. She possesses an energy and attitude that bewitches the listener of her music in a brilliant way.

Throughout the last year, Nabiha has worked intensely on the forthcoming album together with the Swedish producer/writer, Carl Ryden. The tracks on the album are inspired by pop, urban and electronic music and the production is at an international level, rarely seen for an artist out of Denmark. Carl and Nabiha have written and produced all the songs on the album, either just the two of them or in collaboration with fantastic songwriters such as; Nina Woodford (James Morrison feat. Nelly Furtado, Kylie, Leona Lewis, Sophie Ellis Bextor, Christina Milan…) and Cozi Costi (Holly Valence, Jameriquai, Booty Luv, Alex Gaudino, Sunfreakz…). Chanelle Gstettenbauer (Terri Walker) has also been involved in the upcoming album. Already during their first writing session, Nabiha, Carl and Cozi wrote the track “The Enemy”, which certainly is a contender to be the album’s second single. The album is expected released in Denmark in February 2010.

The album will be mixed by a legend who masters the ability to bring out all the best in the music. Jeremy Wheatley, who straight away committed to the job and said he would love to mix the album, has among other things mixed for Royksopp feat. Robyn, Jason Mraz, James Morrison, Chris Cornell, Dido, Leona Lewis, Pet Shop Boys, Sugababes, Duffy, James Blunt, Moby, Sam Sparro, Robbie Williams, Bon Jovi, Duran Duran, Kylie, Jamelia, KLF, Human League and many more.

From Sweden, based in London and about to move to LA, Carl Ryden has as one of the few new Scandinavian producers, managed to get a foot in the door internationally and is currently working with several major artists in the US and UK, both as a producer and songwriter. Carl Ryden believed in Nabiha from the moment they met and has invested a great deal of time in her debut album.

Nabiha has a Danish manager, Mette Buhl from Pitt Buhl Management, who has been based in London for about four years now and through the last years has developed a fantastic network with the biggest English and American labels. Mette was the one who originally put Nabiha and Carl Ryden together and from then on, a future star has been in the making.
